inspiration
Here is our concept map so far let me know of any other changes you would like to make so we can place our final map up :)
okay, so i know I have written on here a lot but there are many things I am running into.
First we each need to have 2 pages done by ourselves. I am doing clouds and thunderstorms. Britley is doing weather temperature and---------, and Lindsay is doing precipitation and --------------. I am not sure what your other page was going to be. We all have to help with the intro page and standards. I am going to start the intro page and give a link on the home page to a separate page for the standards. I will attach the standards my lessons cover, but you both need to add the standards yours cover. I hope this isn't too confusing, But there are so many details we need to cover.
If I remember right, Britley are you doing your second page on our penpal virtual map?
Girls I have also found it very helpful to look at the examples she has for us that are up on the module 6. Lets keep in touch and work fast! :)))
Part A questions
Hey girls! I was looking over this weeks things and we have to finish our final concept map, I am headed to class right now but I am going to post the old map when I get back from class. Please list any suggestions you would like to make on the map and I will fix it and post it tonight. This way we can breathe easy and keep on going with the website :D
thanks so much!
Britley

Website
I hope you both are doing well! We have alot of work to finish up this week for our website :) First thing is first we need to finish up our concept map so we are able to attach it to the website. Also I started a page for temperature and I just wanted to make sure I was setting up the page correctly. I just used the normal font and used 8pt. I didn't know where you both would like to place a picture on the page so I left it blank. Also the rubric says we must each make two pages, I am going to make a page on weather and then I can do our concept page as well. I figured we could all work together to make our final culminating page where our weather forecast would be. I was thinking maybe we could make another podcast and pretend we were our students giving the weather forecast for the day? Let me know what you girls are thinking :) By the way I love the background of the website page I think it fits perfectly!

website page
Okay so I went to our email thing to get to our page and it said something about not being able to get the account for the page on an email from google. So I changed the purpose of our page to other and said we were weather forecasters and it allowed us to make the page i put in the same URL that sarah previously posted so I really hope it works otherwise we might have to start over :(

Scripts!!
Britley I think your script looks great! Thank you both for the input! Recording mine and sending to Sarah!!
Script
You know that feeling you get when you look outside in the morning when you wake up and you see the bright sun! Excitement builds and you are ready to hit the beach, you may be wondering however what is the temperature supposed to be like today? How will you figure out what the weather temperature is supposed to be today? How do meterologists predict weather temperature? Questions and scenarios like these are helpful to use in a classroom to help gear your students for a new unit. Students will want to explore answers and ask new questions. Our next study in the classroom is about temperature. Temperature is predicted using many different aspects of weather. Meterologists look at cloud cover, air pressure, cold and warm fronts, as well as the time of year. All of this information together helps meterologists to calculate high and low temperatures. At school students can find the high and low temperatures of the day by using their own thermometers. Students can go outside in the cool mornings to find a low temperature and go outside again in the hot afternoon sun to find a high temperature.
**** This is my script as of now any changes you girls think I should make?

New script
I will present the students with
different types of rain gauges for three days prior to starting the project of
creating their own rain gauge. I will use this to introduce the topic and to
gain the kids to be eager to learn about the rain gauge. This will leave them inquiring for a few days,
so discussion will start to form about the topic.
Each student will pick out a glass jar;
there are different shapes and sizes. You may choose to place the small ruler inside
the jar when measuring or you can choose to tape the ruler in the jar or to
write the measurements with a ruler on the outside of the jar. We will place
your jar in an open area where it can collect rain for the next month. Every
morning as a class we will go check our rain gauges to see how much rain we got
that day to the nearest millimeter. We will record the amount of rainfall we
receive over a month and record in our weather journals. At the end of the
month we will make a graph and chart of the rainfall for that month.
***********what do you two think? any corrections that should be made? Any ideas that should be added? Let me know...then I will record and send it to Sarah ASAP so she can put it together!! thanks Sarah********

Pod Cast Script
How Rain is formed
Evaporation is when the sun heats up the water that covers
the Earth and turns it into vapor or steam. Then the water vapor or steam rises
toward the clouds. Condensation is when water vapor in the air gets cold and
changes back into liquid, forming clouds. To be able to see this concept easily
each student will take a cold glass of water outside and watch the water
collect on the outside of their cup. The water vapor in the warm air turns back
into liquid when it touches the cold glass
Precipitation occurs when so much water has become too heavy
for the cloud to hold anymore. So the water falls back to the earth in the form
of rain, hail, sleet or snow. The
precipitation that is soaked up by the soil is called ground water. If it runs
over the soil it will be collected in the oceans, lakes or rivers. This will
start the water cycle over again.

this week
I think the script looks good! I agree lets get the podcast done early. I am going to record mine as soon as I get out of my class tomorrow. That should be done before tomorrow at 2pm. I am doing mine on precipitation.
I am looking to do my lesson again on precipitation.
Focus will be on how rain is created
Project idea for my lesson:Collection of rain in rain gauge
what do you guys think?
Sarah
I think your ideas for your lesson sound good!

PART B-embedded map
PART B
Here is our map for our virtual penpal project.
View Weather Monitoring in a larger map Our idea, was for the students to use the map above to understand and explore weather in the two areas (Hawaii and Hong Kong). The students will spend time conversing with another first grader in Hong Kong about the weather there and then will have to research the weather in Hawaii. After the student has done so they will be required to make a PowerPoint presentation of their comparisons. The Map is a visual for the students to see the different areas they will be researching. Also on the Google Maps, there is a weather portion that can be pulled up. This will be good for the students to look at and see the overall weather patterns for the area of research. Overall, our map is for the students to see the complete area they are asked to compare and in what relation it is to Michigan

This is my script for the podcast. Do you think it is okay or should I something? I still plan on adding a few question about Britleys topic in the intro.
Have you ever wondered when you walked outside, the details of weather? Or even looking out the window? Have you questioned what makes clouds move? Why are there so many types? Why does it rain? How do we measure rain? You are soon to find out. Clouds are made up of very tiny water droplets or ice crystals. They are so small they float, therefore creating a visible cloud and appear white because of the suns reflection. A usual cloud is moved by wind from 30 to 100 miles per hour. There are 4 main types of clouds: Cirrus, Alto, Stratus, and cumulus. Cirrus clouds are highest in the sky. They are blown by high winds and appear wispy. These clouds predict fair to pleasant weather. Alto clouds are middle in the sky and often show as a blue-grey color. They predict continuous rain or snow, whereas stratus clouds are lowest in the sky and often bring a light mist. Stratus clouds appear gray and cover the entire sky. And finally cumulus clouds, which form in all heights of the sky. They appear white and fluffy and often look like pieces of floating Cotton. These can become very large and turn into what we know as thunderstorm clouds. Clouds are an important part of weather and have the ability to predict so much.

Hey girls! This week we have to create a podcast. I am willing to put everything together. That means all you have to do is record your part and send it to me. I would love it if we could do this right away. It is better if we all just do it, so I can just get it put together. I am planning on doing mine on clouds and the different types. I will also do the intro to the podcast and mention our final project. How does all of this sound? I am more than willing to put everything together.
Oh and we also have to write another lesson plan this week. I am also planning on doing this on clouds and observations the kids can record. What about you girls?

Final Look through before posting
Here are the links to both the google map and the google documents, I put the finishing touches on both including adding things to our map to connect to our virtual penpal project. I also enabled the weather function I thought that was a neat idea too! :) So if you get a chance to please look over these and give the okay to post them "officially"

this week
I am working on what we had to do this week...I will do a movie on precipitation. I am also looking at the document and map. I still can not make any comments on anything. I am going to have my dad look and see if he can figure out why i can only post a new post and not be able to make a comment on what you two are saying.
* I have reviewed and added ideas to the google doc along with sending you an email about the revisions I made.
* looking at our map I can change mine to see the weather of many different places, I think it would be neat if we enabled this feature, since we are talking about weather...what do you two think?
* The revisions look great...Lets make it our final!!! :)
